LaPorte rode a Suzuki RA works bike, but Hannah and Burgett rode the new 1978 YZ production bikes closely based on their OW works bikes from the year before. Pat Alexander and Keith McCarty would grow in their companies to become the Race Team Managers today for US Suzuki and Yamaha USA today.

It was the same week that Harley-Davidson announced it would no longer sell "Lightweight" motorcycle, so this was the only appearance of the bike, and Harley ended sales of their off-road MX bikes soon afterwaeds.
