One of the most famous photographs in the history of American motocross, the start of the 1976 Saint Louis Trans-An with from left to right: Kent Howerton (250cc and 500cc National Champion), Danny LaPorte (250cc National and World Champion), Marty Smith (125cc and 500cc National Champion, Bob Hannah (125cc and 250cc National and Supercross Champion) , Roger DeCoster (500cc World Champion), Tommy Croft.
Jim Gianatsis was also an AMA professional motocrosser. Here he is racing his Yamaha DT2 at a local motocross track in Florida in 1972 with his then AMA regional #19L. The following year1993 his AMA National Number was 619. He did race in one AMA National that year in Georgina and earned enough point s to garner AMA National #100 for 1974. Jim's Cycle News race coverage duties never allowed him to race a National with #100, but he did keep the number until his AMA Pro License lapsed in 1978 and AMA gave #100 to Bob Hannah when the former AMA Championing returned to racing after a year off from broken leg injury to begin racing again in 1979.
